The primary practice in Nichiren Buddhism is to rhythmically chant the “one essential phrase” -
Nam Myoho Renge Kyo.
Nam Myoho Renge Kyo is the Mystic Law that runs the universe and, by chanting the words, we are able to unlock our potential for Buddhahood and rise above the sufferings of birth, life and death.
There are many ways to interpret Nam Myoho Renge Kyo.

Nam - to be at one with
Myoho - the mystic law that governs the universe
Renge - cause and effect
Kyo - continuously through everything
Nam Myoho Renge Kyo - To be at one with the mystic law working through cause and effect everywhere.
